Wi-fi thief, part 2

Last night, about 1am, my buddy came back. I hadn't turned my signal back on, so I know he wasn't fucking with my connection.

This time, I decided that I would just get out there and ask him how his internet connection was doing. He was well-dressed, and sitting in a fairly-new car. I approached him as he briskly folded up his laptop to obscure the contents of the display. Then, without hesitation, he replied, "It's good, thank you.", in a thick Russian accent. What the fuck? Did he not get the sarcasm? Anyhow, I told him to go lurk somewhere else. Of course, he just moved down the tier to the next level of apartments where he split last time.

I really doubt he will come back.

But, here's the thing that bugs me. Why does this guy need a late-night internet connection (11pm, 1am)? He's got to be up to something, right? Why, then, would he come back to the same place? Surely he's got to think he looks suspicious, especially since he was clearly being watched the last time. Maybe this isn't the second time he's spent a few hours outside my apartment. Maybe he's gotten away with it quite a few other times, and I just happened to be asleep. Either way, something is seriously wrong with this dude. I'm not paranoid. I don't think he's after me, specifically. I DO, however, think that he's doing something he shouldn't be, and trying to ensure that his internet-based doings can't be traced back to him easily.

What could be so bad or questionable that he can't use his own home connection, or his office, or ANYWHERE else but a dimly-lit driveway in an apartment complex?
