Simon Cowell Sucks - Quit letting the British judge American shows!

Contrary to being a "for the music" musician, I have been a fan of American Idol since it's debut on American TV. Yes, I am aware that it's all a big money-making scheme, and it's probably rigged to begin with. Yes, I'm aware that it's not "reality" as much as it is "written". This year, it has been most-evident that this is the case, that it is scripted, regurgitated tripe.

So, why do I watch it? I don't know, but I think I'm nearing the end of my rope with this show. I just got finished watching the "San Diego" auditions that I had recorded on my DVR.

There were a few moments where I said, "eh, obvious scripting", but what really got me is this:

The two girls that came in with all their Simon-worship glowing. The first sister brings in a note from the second, asking Simon if she could come in during the audition, because he was one of the three people she wanted to meet in the world (Obama and Oprah were the other two). So, Simon's reading this aloud, and he mispronounces "Obama". WTF?

Okay, so you would think that anyone spending more than a day in this country would have heard the name "Barack Obama" pronounced correctly. Maybe Simon's illiterate, maybe he's just an asshole. But, here's the rub... Those two girls were going off about how great Simon was, but he really couldn't give two shits about "America", evidenced by the fact that he has no clue about our current Presidential race.

I'm guessing that if my goal were to make it as a respected celebrity in another country, and I had no clue about their politics, or culture, and made a fool of myself, I would probably not last very long.

What the fuck is up with the Simon-worship, and why do we keep letting the fucking British judge American TV Shows? I'm not even going to get into "America's got talent, and those British fuckers."

Can't we find Americans that will judge these shows? Oh yeah, we have "The Hoff" and Paula Abdul...

*rolls eyes*.

Simon Cowell - Bugger off, Mate.

Americans

Your American attitude of exclusivity is exactly the reason why there is such hatred towards your country by the workld

Uhhhhhh....I believe that

Uhhhhhh....I believe that the word "American" in the title "American Idol" is perhaps why this writer does not agree with a rude, subjectively opinionated Brittish guy being a judge. It has nothing to do with America Elitism.

you have to be kidding

Its simon cowells show, so he does what he wants.

I can't believe an american has the cheek to moan about pronounciation when the English language has been changed so much by them.

Anyway who cares about the presidential race, if an american came over and didnt know who Gordon Brown was we wouldnt give a shit. Its politics mate, who cares.

I meet americans all the time and I know more geography and politics about their country than they do.

I think your just jealous an English guy is cleaning up in your country.

Come on now...

I think everyones' opinions here are a little silly, frankly. First off, Simon is in fact rude and subjectively opinionated. It's ironic that a British guy is the only one in the show to behave the way that people of other nationalities falsely perceive all Americans to be. Secondly, clearly the fact that he's British is irrelevant to anything and is not in itself a reason why he shouldn't be on the show. He shouldn't be on the show because he's annoying, dumb, elitist, and has arbitrarily slanted views. And to the above poster, please don't make asinine comments about Americans changing the english language. The english language has evolved differently in every country it's used in and British english isn't innately superior to American English just because it has changed less over time.

You, sir, win.

You, sir, win.

It's a little ironic really.

It's a little ironic really. The moment one person who isn't American decides to judge over something many American people get sick and tired. Perhaps you are starting to get a slight feeling as to how the whole damn population is fed up of America trying to police the world...

Although I do agree Simon Cowell is an ass.
